Elaine Shigeishi with Shiseido (Canada) Inc.
In follow-up to the Power 5 interview we did with Louanne McGrory, we are pleased to present our next speaker, Elaine Shigeishi, with Shiseido (Canada), who will be speaking at the event on April 21st "“Beyond Beauty - Innovation, Leadership and Resilience”.
What are you most passionate about?
I am passionate about building partnerships.I enjoy working with like-minded people and organizations that have similar values. It is exciting and rewarding to work together to create new ideas and activations while achieving a common goal.
Who is your greatest role model?
I have two spectrums of people that I admire - my Mom and my two daughters. My Mom immigrated to Canada from Japan when she was in her mid-20's.I see her as brave, adventurous, and determined for embarking on thi journey. She is also very caring, empathetic, and level-headed. I greatly appreciate her sense of grace and timelessness. I also admire my two daughters, Nicole, who is 26, and Kristen, who is 21 years of age.I have learned a lot about myself and what is important about life with them both. They are strong young women who are building their careers, relationships, and navigating new social norms. They are also brave just like their Grandmother (Obachan) when she came to Canada.
What is your greatest accomplishment in your career trajectory?
I am proud of many accomplishments throughout my career. One accomplishment that I am most proud of is developing #ShareBeauty with my team. This concept was built on sharing kind words to someone special by mailing a card expressing the sentiment, "You are beautiful to me because...". Over 30,000 cards were sent, and we heard countless stories sharing tears of joy, renewed friendships, and messages for anti-bullying. We were moved and cried a lot with the beautiful messages that have been treasured across Canada.
What advice would you give to women who are building their careers?
Do whatever you are passionate about, and work with people and organizations that have the same core values as you do.It will be a joy to go to work, and you will love the people you work with.It takes one person to believe in you, and you can do anything you want to.
What do you think is the biggest challenge for the generation of women behind you?
I believe that balancing life is the greatest challenge for the next generation. It will be a juggling act to have a set beginning and end to the work day, then transition to personal time.Everything is now blended- from social interactions to digital social engagements. My best advice is to stay present, and enjoy every moment.
