Gearing up for a Working Summer Holiday

Ok we have all been there before. A lovely family vacation is marked on the calendar in the kitchen in bold letters [-----------HOLIDAY---------]. However, we know we are going to need to take care of some work while on the trip.

RULE 1: WHAT YOU WILL AND WILL NOT BE DOING

If you have a boss, be sure it is understood what you will and especially WIL NOT be able to do while away. It is important to confirm these expectations and try to water them down as much as possible. Once the boundaries are set be sure not to give an inch, otherwise you may end up loosing any chance of a relaxing break and setting a bad residence for you and your colleagues.

RULE 2: FAMILY FIRST

Remember there is your whole life to do work and only so much time you get to spend with Family. Even if your self employed, you need to be able to say no to yourself.

If you have to do some work be sure to do it away from the rest of your group, you may bring their energy level down and set bad example.

RULE 3: POWER DOWN

This includes your partner and kids. Most of us, especially young people, have some level of addiction to devices, social media, news and other things found online. Set a good example for your kids and others by not being tethered or engaged with your devices and browsing habits.

RULE 4: CREATE SOME MEMORIES

Pre-arrange some signature activities or whole days that you will spend together or special treats for just you. Your holiday will end in no time so do something special to help anchor some memories.

Showing that you value your time just as much as others, is a sign of a leader so take charge and have a summer holiday to remember.
