Confidence in the workplace is a key advantage, and a major factor in career development. However some workers find themselves crippled with doubt and fear, unable to take necessary risks or voice their insights.
This is a unhealthy environment to be in and should be addressed immediately. Here are 3 confidence killers and how to defeat them
1. Perfectionism
Women often pressure themselves to meet ridiculous standards, and can become discouraged when they fail to achieve them.
We all have different strengths and weaknesses so when you fall short on a task or project, know that you are human and cannot do everything perfectly – and accept that.
2. Avoid Micromanager bosses
The quickest way to strip away your confidence is to answer to somone that is constantly micromannaging everything you do. If you have never had a boss like that your one of the lucky ones. Also, being micromanaged may be a sign your boss has lost confidence in you and may be pre- justifying to fire you.
If your boss starts to micromanage you ask yourself and him/her "why is this happening?" It probably has more to do with how that person feels about themselves then you.
Take a deep breath and dont burn any bridges. You should consider only 3 options:
1) Resolve why your boss is mincromanging and get them to agree to stop it.
2) See if you can pivot to a new role that wont be so demanding or micromanaged.
3) Start looking for a new employer.
3. Disengagement at work
One of the most common reasons for feeling disconnected from your job, and therefore lacking confidence in it, is doing work that you don't identify with or doesn't leverage your skills. We all have talents and abilities, and if you're not using them at your job, you may want to consider other opportunities.
You only get 1 life so don't burn your wick faster then needed and do what your good at and love.
